Sleeper train to Hanoi and tales of the capital

It was early evening by the time our bus rolled into Lao Cai train station, we got the public bus near the church (yellow guy) for 30000 dong. We got the last two bunks on the train, cost us 15 dollars, it’s worth booking in advance but go to the station to book as its much cheaper than online ? We settled in for the night, I was in a room with a crazy Chinese guy who kept singing and murmuring to himself and jumping out of bed randomly for some unknown reason! I had a fitful sleep and was shattered when the train got to Hanoi at 5am. A lady came road with coffee and I could have kissed her!

We decided to stay in hotel Asia as we needed a good sleep, so we shelled out 18 dollars and I had the best bath ever ? The hotel did breakfast so that was super handy ? We then went to explore the capital, there a lake in the old quarter with many cafes to sit in and watch the world go by. It’s also nice to just wander around the old town.  A super friendly Vietnamese woman street vendor approached me and popped her banana baskets on my shoulder! I now know why she overcharges for them, super heavy to hold even for a few minutes lol!  That night we looked at the markets and went to bbq chicken street, the chicken was super delicious but it wasnt cheap! Cost us 200,000 dong for a meal! I also got the biggest banana fritter in the world lol, best thing I’ve ever had! :)The next day we caught the public bus to the bus station and booked our trip to Cat Ba island, its much cheaper to book it with Hoang Long from the station than through your hotel. Cost us 210,000 dong for the whole trip, three buses and a boat ?

Next up is tales of beautiful Cat Ba ?
